Stress Relief Games

Today’s society places a big strain on both your body and mind. Working five days a week or looking after the children and the house can cause your stress levels to rise to a dangerous level if you don’t do something to relieve the tension.

It may sound silly but playing a game can dramatically decrease the amount of stress you suffer from.

Most Games Work for Stress Relief

Outdoor games allow you to release pent up energy and vent your frustrations. Baseball with your children or your friends is the perfect way to wind down after a hard week at work because you get the enjoyment of your family and friends with some exercise thrown in.

Unspent energy can make you restless and edgy and this can add to any feelings of stress that you already have. Playing any physical sport uses up the stored energy and gives your mind time to relax and forget the problems of the day.

Indoor games are equally as good as outdoor games but most of them target the pent up energy and frustration in your mind.

If you have a boring repetitive job that takes little or no thought then your mind can become irritated by the lack of things to do. When this happens some people let their mind wander and they lose all concentration whereas others become tense and agitated.

Have a book of problem-solving puzzles handy and take a few minutes out to do a small puzzle. This will get your brain working again and will steady your concentration levels.

Other mind games include things like chess and solitaire. These types of game encourage the brain to become active again as your mental skills will be challenged.

Keeping the mind active not only helps with stress but can also prevent short-term memory loss to some extent. As an alternative you could arrange to play cards with your friends and have some fun; the whole point is to relax and de-stress so it really doesn’t matter if you lose.

Stress Games in the Workplace

Many companies have instituted games as a way of relieving stress for their employees. Studies have shown that games can actually help to decrease workplace stress.

Both physical and mental games can help to relieve the stress that accumulates throughout the day so find a game that you enjoy playing and play it as often as you can.
